USB-C Rapid Charging ProClip Holder Information

Many customers have asked if our USB-C charging holders will support Rapid Charging like the charger that comes with USB-C capable phones.

What is USB-C?

USB-C cables are reversible, meaning that unlike standard Micro-USB, USB-C cables can be plugged in any way. There is no "up" and "down." USB-C also supports rapid charging. Supported devices are sold with a USB-C wall charger which outputs 15 watts of power, classifying it as a rapid charge device. The larger style connector (found on most computers) is USB-A. The USB-A specification has a maximum rating of 4.5 watts of power. Watch this video to learn more.

ProClip Holders & Rapid Charging

Our charging holders use a Griffin car charger, which outputs 10.5 watts of power. No manufacturer currently offers a car charger with USB-A and 15 watt output. For this reason, we chose to stick to USB-A chargers so that you can still plug your phone into your vehicle for data transfer. Until car manufacturers install USB-C car ports, we won't be making a holder that has a USB-C to USB-C connection. However, our holders should be enough to keep your device going in the car, even with heavy app use.

What About Fixed Install Holders?

It is possible to do a rapid charging version of our Holders for Fixed Installation, but right now the demand is not high enough for us to produce this type of holder.
