I was on the hunt for a phone mount that didn’t obstruct my view and/or stick to the windshield (been there, done that and left with residue a wire brush can’t get off). I love my Venza A LOT but Betty doesn’t have any flat surface on the dashboard for a phone mount 😖. I also didn’t want to break the plastic in the vents nor block AC when it’s 100+ outside. I had all but given up when I found this. Pay the money, it works! Sturdy and in the perfect location to not obstruct your view. Get a longer phone charging cord and leave that bad boy draped over the steering wheel.

The mount is well build and easy to install. The reason for 2 stars is that once the phone mount/cradle is installed, you can't insert/remove your phone without pivoting the cradle due to its proximity to the A pillar. If the mount extended further into the cabin or more towards the steering wheel there would be enough clearance to remove the larger/taller phones of today.

Some vehicle mounting bases like this one were created before the most recent larger smartphone designs were even created. You are correct that in general and for this specific mount, that the a-pillar location is a tight fit for larger smartphones. The only recommendation we have if you plan to mount a larger smartphone in the a-pillar area is to slightly rotate your device holder each time you dock the phone so you have enough clearance. Also, make sure you are attaching the device holder the furthest you can to the right side of the mounting base for some additional clearance.
