Such a GREAT Phone Holder!

I've been a ProClip user for over 10 years, and I've always appreciated the quality and durability of their products. When it came time to change my phone holder, I was pleased to discover that I didn’t need to replace the base mount. It’s great to see a product designed with long-term value in mind.

There’s a reason why I keep going back to ProClip

Always well thought out, clean and simple installation that gives you a rugged phone mount to be proud of for years to come. I bought my first ProClip in 1997, and still have that car; and every time I drive it, I still am glad I went with ProClip then, and now.

Best phone mount there is!

I have to say this is the best phone mount out there. I have purchased and returned several mounts until I found ProClip. My biggest issue was finding a phone mount that would stay mounted and be in a good position. I tried several suction type mounts and they would not say mounted and always fell off. ProClip having a mount specific for my vehicle is a definite game changer. I recommend 1000%

Car Dashboard Phone Mounts FAQ.

Why dashboard mounts outperform suction cups, vent clips, and cup-holder mounts — and everything else you need to know before you buy.

A car dashboard phone mount is a holder that attaches your smartphone directly to the vehicle's dashboard — not to a window, an air vent, or a cup holder. ProClip takes this a step further with a precision, custom-fit system: a vehicle-specific mounting base snaps into the factory trim seams of your exact year, make, and model using mechanical pressure alone. No drilling, no adhesive, no suction cups, no permanent modifications of any kind.

The result is a phone holder that looks and feels factory-installed, stays completely rattle-free at any speed, and sits low and centred in your natural field of vision. Generic mounts use one-size-fits-all suction cups, adhesive pads, or vent clips that were never designed for your specific vehicle. A ProClip dashboard mount is precision-tooled for it.

Browse all dashboard mounts or use the Vehicle Product Finder to locate the exact base for your car or truck.

Custom-Fit Base No Drilling No Suction Cup Snap-In Mechanical Fit Rattle-Free

Windshield suction cup mounts fail drivers in three critical ways — and dashboard mounts solve all three.

Legality. Windshield mounts are illegal or heavily restricted in nearly half of all U.S. states — including California, Florida, New Jersey, Illinois, Virginia, Washington, Idaho, Nebraska, New Mexico, and West Virginia — because they obstruct the driver's sightline. A low, centred dashboard mount keeps the windshield entirely clear and is compliant everywhere. ProClip's own state-by-state legal guide covers the full breakdown.

Reliability. Suction cups are highly sensitive to heat and surface oils. Dashboard and windshield temperatures can spike above 130°F on sunny days, causing suction cups to lose grip and phones to fall while driving. ProClip's snap-fit base is a purely mechanical connection that cannot be defeated by heat, dust, or temperature cycles.

Viewing angle and safety. A phone mounted high on the windshield requires a longer, more dangerous eye movement away from the road. A dash mount positioned low and centred keeps glances fast, minimal, and safely within your natural sightline.

Illegal in ~25 States Suction Fails in Heat Dashboard = 50-State Legal Shorter Eye Movement Mechanical Hold

Top-of-dashboard suction cup and adhesive gel pad mounts press against a soft, textured, or curved surface that was never engineered as a mounting point. These connections degrade predictably over time: heat from the sun breaks down adhesive compounds, dust and skin oils prevent a clean seal, and the vibration of everyday driving works the mount progressively looser — often causing the phone to launch into the footwell on a sharp corner or speed bump.

ProClip mounts do not rely on adhesion or suction at any stage. The custom mounting base uses the structural trim seams already built into your vehicle — the same type of connection factory trim components use. The hold is purely mechanical, meaning it cannot loosen with heat cycles, cannot peel away over months of use, and leaves no sticky residue on your dashboard when removed.

Adhesive mounts that release unexpectedly can also leave permanent staining or peel marks on soft-touch and piano-black interior surfaces — both common on modern vehicles and expensive to fix. A ProClip base eliminates this risk entirely.

No Adhesive Mechanical Fit No Residue Heat Stable Interior Safe

Vent phone mounts are popular because they are cheap and easy to clip on — but they carry a significant list of drawbacks that experienced drivers eventually hit.

Fragile vent fins. HVAC louvers are thin plastic components designed to direct airflow, not bear the cantilevered load of a smartphone. The clip stresses the fin at a single point, causing micro-fractures over time. Eventually the fin snaps — and vent repair on a modern vehicle can cost hundreds of dollars in parts and labour.

Thermal conflict. In winter, hot air from the blower blows directly onto your phone's lithium battery, accelerating chemical degradation and triggering thermal-protection slowdowns that affect both charging speed and performance. In summer, a phone in front of a vent blocks the cold air needed to cool the cabin.

Constant wobble and rattle. Vent clips grip a curved plastic surface with a small spring mechanism. On highways or rough surfaces, the phone oscillates continuously — there is no rigid connection to the vehicle's structure at any point.

A ProClip dashboard mount has zero interaction with your HVAC system, anchors rigidly to the dash structure, keeps all vents fully open, and eliminates wobble entirely.

Vent Fin Protection No Thermal Risk Airflow Fully Open Zero Wobble Rigid Structure Mount

Cup holder mounts are marketed as a clean, no-damage alternative — but they introduce their own practical problems that make them a poor long-term choice for most drivers.

Ergonomics and eye travel. A phone in the cup holder sits low and to the side — often 12 to 18 inches below and offset from your natural forward sightline. Every navigation glance requires a significant eye movement away from the road. A dashboard mount keeps the phone low and centred in a much shorter eye-movement distance, reducing distraction with every single use.

Gear shift interference. In vehicles with a console-mounted gear shift or a manual transmission, cup holder mounts frequently sit directly beside or beneath the shifter. Your hand can knock the phone while shifting, and charging cables routed through that area create clutter near moving parts — a frustration on every drive.

Stability. Cup holder mounts rely on friction and spring tension. Any diameter mismatch between the mount stem and the cup cavity causes the phone to wobble on every corner. Some vehicles have shallow cup holders that barely grip the mount at all.

A ProClip dashboard mount keeps your phone at eye level, firmly anchored to the vehicle structure, completely stable, and leaves your cup holders free for what they were designed for.

Eye-Level Placement No Gear Shift Conflict Cup Holders Stay Free No Wobble Navigation Safety

Yes — in virtually every U.S. state, mounting a phone on the dashboard is legal, provided it does not obstruct the driver's forward view through the windshield. ProClip's dashboard mounts are engineered with a low, centred position below the windshield glass, keeping the phone within the driver's peripheral sightline rather than blocking it.

By contrast, windshield suction cup mounts are illegal or restricted in approximately half of all U.S. states — including high-population states such as California, Florida, New Jersey, and Illinois. Officers in these states can issue citations for view obstruction, and in some jurisdictions the restriction applies to GPS devices and dash cams as well as phones.

Choosing a properly positioned dashboard mount is not just a matter of preference — in many states it is the only fully law-compliant mounting option for hands-free phone use while driving. ProClip's guide to windshield mount legality by state is a useful reference for confirming the rules in your state.

Hands-Free Compliant Windshield = Illegal in ~25 States Dashboard = Legal All 50 States GPS Compliance No Obstruction

No. ProClip mounting bases are completely non-destructive. The base snaps into the existing factory seams and trim gaps of your dashboard using mechanical pressure alone — no drilling, no adhesive, no suction cup, and no alteration of any kind to the vehicle's interior surfaces.

The base can be removed cleanly at any time, leaving the interior identical to how it was before installation. This is a meaningful distinction from adhesive gel pads, which commonly leave sticky, discoloured residue on soft-touch and piano-black surfaces — both standard on modern vehicles and costly to repair or replace without professional detailing. Damage to those surfaces directly reduces trade-in and resale value.

A ProClip mount installed and removed correctly leaves no trace, no marks, and has zero impact on your vehicle's resale value. Use the Vehicle Product Finder to confirm the exact mounting base for your car.

No Drilling No Residue Resale Value Protected Fully Reversible Interior Safe

Most ProClip dashboard mounts install in under five minutes with no tools, no professional help, and no vehicle modifications required.

The ProClip system has two parts. Part one is the vehicle-specific mounting base — this attaches to your dashboard permanently but reversibly. ProClip provides step-by-step instructions tailored to your exact vehicle with every order. The base typically slides into a trim seam or clips into a gap near the centre stack, applying outward or downward pressure against the surrounding trim to lock itself in place mechanically. No screws, no adhesive, no drilling.

Part two is the phone holder, which clicks onto the base and can be swapped out independently whenever you upgrade your phone — without disturbing the base. Holders are available in cradle style (universal, fits any phone with or without a case), magnetic non-charging (MagnePro), or wireless-charging magnetic (MagicMount Charge Elite at 15W Qi2, or MagicMount Charge Pro at 25W Qi2.2).

When you change vehicles, only the base needs replacing — your existing phone holder transfers directly to the new base. Find the right combination for your vehicle at proclipusa.com/pages/product-finder.
